FUCK YEAH CORSETS

omg okay wow

Probably due to the recent tumblr staff announcement there’s been a sudden outburst of downright nasty anti-thinspo posts.

I’d like to clarify that my post on fuckyeahcorsets was referring to a particular thing that is frequently incorrectly labelled as thinspo.

And also say this.

I have zero respect for you if you go around attacking thinspo blogs, calling them sick and telling them to eat a hamburger.  Zero.

Anorexia is not something people do to be cool, or have fun.  It is not a choice.  It causes death, and a seemingly endless list of painful complications.  It is an illness.  It is debilitating.  It is crippling.  And it is surrounded by so much stigma that reaching out for help can be downright humiliating.  Because of people like you, who think it’s fine and fun to tease those who are suffering.

Anorexia is a form of body dysmorphic disorder.  It comes in all forms, but the bottom line is that the outside of your body doesn’t match what you feel inside, or what you see when you look in the mirror.  Anorexia is a mental illness.  Never a choice.

Nobody should ever, ever be attacked for suffering from an eating disorder.  There are some people who are fighting themselves every day trying to get better.  There are some people scared to even admit there’s anything wrong.  There are some people whose BDD is so bad they can’t see how unhealthy they are.  But all these people have one thing in common.

They are miserable.  It hurts.  Every second of it hurts.

So going onto the blog of someone who is hurting deeply, and telling them to stop whinging and eat a pizza?  That is disgusting.  That is bullying, and that is wrong.

Extend a hand to help, where needed.  Maybe even just drop someone a ‘you’re beautiful’ once in a while.  But it is never, never okay to harass and bully someone for an illness that is beyond their control, even if you can’t understand the causes behind the illness.  Maybe even especially then.

Understand, and help.  Never bully.

And if you are suffering, I’ll say it again, please get help.  You are strong, and I believe in you.  Recovery is hard, but so, so worth it.

Reblogging from my personal because I felt the need to clarify the aim of my post last night.

Hopefully this will be the last from here on the issue of thinspo.
