I'm a boy, or at least something close to that. I'd like to buy a corset and start waist training however my flat chest creates a bit of awkwardness with wearing a full corset under clothes. What would you recommend for someone with a flat chest? thanks. Love this blog by the way.

Hi!  You’ve actually come to the right place, as I’m a guy myself.  Finding corsets to fit a flat chest is certainly trickier, but once you start custom-ordering (which I very much recommend if you’re planning to waist train) you’ll be able to discuss measurements and styles with your corsetier and experiment with anything you like!

I assume you’re wanting to buy off-the-rack initially, in which case I would recommend only buy underbust.  Underbusts should fit you just fine, and you’ll be able to cinch without any issues in the chest department.

In addition, I’d also recommend doing a little research on Mr. Pearl, an extremely famous male corsetier with an 18 inch waist :)

Corset-story separates their plastic boned and steel bonded pretty clearly. They also have a waist training section.

Hello! I recently ordered my corset off the rack, and the ribbon ties it came with aren't cutting it for me. Do you know where i could buy some heavy duty beige cord? Everywhere I've looked doesn't have it in that color.

no idea, sorry, any followers got a hint?

Hey, important question. I'm 16 years old and very interested in corset training since I have very narrow hips and would like them reshaped. Does it actually work or will I be wasting a paycheck?

Well, corset training isn’t going to do much of anything for your hips.  The only thing that will be reshaped is your waist (which will make your hips appear wider relative to your waist), and only during the time you are wearing the corset.  If you leave it off for too long, you will go back to your natural shape slowly.  Corset training is comparable to wearing braces (to a degree) if the braces are taken off, or the retainer is not worn, the teeth will go back to their original shape, and roughly the same is true of corset training.

If you intend to corset train, be prepared to spend more than one paycheck.  As you go down in sizes, you will require tighter corsets.  It also affects diet and exercise capability (to a degree) so only consider it if you are not actively involved in sport on a regular basis.  (It will do good things for your posture though!  I wear my corset as a brace for my back injury more than anything else.)

If you’ve read through all that and waist training still sounds like the way to go, then the lovely ladies at waistedlives have done a spectacular reference post with everything you need to get going, and should you need more information they are more likely to be able to help you!  (I have and will never waist train, as I’m a dancer, but they both are currently I believe.)

I found a picture on Pinterest and it is a beautiful set of red and black underbust corset with matching bra and panty set. The woman in the picture had black har and a large extravagant necklace on. I am looking for the exact set. Can you help please.

Not at all, without the picture.

If you have the picture saved, you can either submit it and I’ll do my best to find it for you, or you can try a reverse google image search.

Do you think it'd be possible to make a super ugly slip on corset out of knitted fitted elastic?

uh

Well corset making is very much not my forte but I know enough to know that

1) Elastic should never be used in corset making

2) Corsets should never be ‘slip on’

helloo :) im rather new to wearing corsets, and i just got my first steel boned but i was wondering can a steel boned corsets bones be kinda.. bendy? cause the label and site say steel boned, the busk is definitely steel but the bones are just kinda bendy x3 are steel bones dead stiff? can they get away with calling them "steel boned" if only the busk is steel? :S thank you ^^ x

Yikes :S I’m afraid what you’ve got there sounds like mixed steel/plastic boning.  Steel boning should have almost no give (unless you’re very strong) and if the stays are noticeably more flexible than the busk then that’s not right.

The other possibility is that it could have spiral steel boning, which I’ve heard is more flexible than flat steel, but I have no experience with.

Either way, it’s definitely worth getting in touch with the seller and seeing what they have to say on the matter!

I was just curious about post-pregnancy corsetry... Many moms I know usually just wear an elastic girdle, or a "belly-bandit" to help get their old pre-baby bodies back... But what about just traditional, (steel) boned corsets? Would it be faster and more effective? I mean on top of exercise and breastfeeding (helps your uterus shrink back down faster than going without), of course. Any tight-lacing mamas out there?

Interesting theory, though this is 100% not my area of expertise!  Anyone else able to lend a hand?

Is there any difference (in terms of quality) between corset laces that are sort of satiny and the ones that are tougher like shoelaces? What do you think is the best type of lacing to get?

I’m by no means an expert on corsetmaking, and again there are almost certainly others better fitted to answer this than me.  (Please feel free to come forward!)  But to my general understanding, the satiny laces are designed for more fashion-oriented corsets, whereas the tougher ones are for sturdier corsets, designed more for serious tight lacing than looks.  That’s not to say that satin ribbon style lacing is ineffective - all of my corsets are satin laced, and they certainly do the trick.  There may be some difference in durability as I said, but I do think the choice is largely aesthetic!

(Feel free to disagree with me, as I said I’m no expert on corset making!)

My corset gives me a little kinda bloated look in my lower stomach when I tighten it up... It goes down low enough, and I have no weight to lose... What's the problem? I can't wear my corset out with how it pudges out my stomach :(

Oh man, I’m really sorry!  The only thing I can think of could be the place the corset laces - I’m assuming it’s back laced, in the middle… perhaps you need something with a lower center point?  I really don’t know what else to say, sorry!

Anyone else have any advice?

who is this model

I have absolutely no idea who you mean, sorry… you didn’t specify a picture, and I’m afraid I have no idea who most of the models featured are to begin with.  You’ll have to be a lot more specific if I’m going to be any help to you whatsoever…
